I thought this holiday was supposed to be good for couples. So far it's been really disappointing.

I'll be happy if I never have to hear "Valentine's Day" ever again.

[And boyfriends have been equally disappointing; she feels like she's barely seen him for days. Stupid Sokka and his stupid other-girl friends. Stupid holiday. Stupid- ... everything.

She'll be in her room sulking and wanting to punch things. And she might not respond right away, either- she has to have a conversation with a certain someone...]

[Meanwhile, oblivious to the CW Brand drama that's going on inside her own house, Katara just came back from practicing with her bo outside. But - woe! - her wood oil seems to have gone missing.

Clueless, Katara goes to knock on Suki's door.]

Hey, Suki, have you seen my--

[Assuming that she opens the door or gets cut off here.]

[She is certainly cut off- by Suki's best attempt at the "crying but trying to pretend not to" voice.]

Just leave me alone!

[Oh - no, that's not gonna fly.

Katara cracks the door opened. Visual confirmation to make sure her friend and her brother's girlfriend is physically intact is necessary, sorry.]

Suki?

[No, no, no, this is not cool at all. Suki just rolls away from the door, remaining curled up and half-hidden in the blankets on her bed. Go awaaaay she just wants to have her cry.]

[...not even looking up at her when she goes in? Not good.

Katara steps inside and closes the door quietly after her.]

What happened?

[Suki was so strong - what could have done this?]

[Suki is just gonna stay in her corner and radiate misery. Reeeeaaally wishing Katara hadn't come in, now.]

You should ask Sokka.

[Imagine the tone one might use to refer to, say... Azula. Ozai. The Southern Raiders.

Yeah, she is not a happy camper.]

[She takes two hesitant steps into the room. Suki really doesn't look so good.]

But right now I'm asking you.

[What had her idiot brother done now? Weren't they all happy just two days ago? Hadn't she had to leave the dinner table early?]

[She doesn't want to explain- she doesn't even want to say it, not before she's even come to terms with what he's done. She doesn't even know how to explain it.

It doesn't help that she feels like a complete idiot... falling for it, all this time.]

He... he's... [...Hic. Sob. Sniff.] He's in love w-with someone else...

[...I'm sorry, did you just hit her with a hammer between her eyes?]

What? No - no way. That's impossible.

Tell him that!

[Katara seriously does this look impossible to you, THERE IS VERY REAL PAIN HERE OKAY]

[Katara sees the pain. But that doesn't make it any less impossible. All those hints he'd dropped about marrying Suki? The look on his face when she gave him his Christmas present? How happy he was when she got here?

Katara doesn't believe it.]

Believe me, I will.

[And she crosses the room to sit down on the corner of Suki's bed.]

Suki, I don't know what happened, but - I don't believe it. I know he loves you.

[Suki huddles even further into her blankets. She doesn't want to hear it. To believe that means to believe that he'd rather hurt her like this than explain himself.]

Then why... why would he tell me something like that!? This isn't s-some kind of joke!

[That startles her - she thought that maybe there had been some sort of misunderstanding...]

He told you that?

[...no. Just... no.

Katara reaches out, places a comforting hand on Suki's shoulder.]

Suki... what did he say?

H-he said... it's because we were apart f-for so long. Because he's been here, and I... [It's not her fault!] There was someone else, but... when I came...

He's been lying to me! This whole time, there's been someone...!

Maybe if this had happened a few weeks ago, Katara would have had a second's doubt. But after seeing Sokka with Suki - after watching them be reunited so happily again?

She doesn't believe it. Not even for a second.

Suki... I don't know how or why he came to such an idiotic conclusion, but that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Do you remember how happy he was when you first came here? He didn't shut-up for days. Do you really think Sokka could fake that? There's just no way.

You... didn't see him. He was serious... he meant it all.

[It's obvious that whatever happened here really hurt Suki, but...

Katara still doesn't believe it.]

Right, like he believed it when he said that he was always a girl, or always the Avatar? Or like he believed it when he thought he was a firebender? (She hadn't actually been there for that one, but she'd heard about it.)

Suki... [Katara shakes her head and repeats herself, because she doesn't know what else to say.] There's just no way. I know he loves you.

[Suki pauses at that, swallowing hard, then slowly sits up, rubbing at her eyes. She probably looks pathetic at this point, but she has more important things to worry about now.]

...You think... this could just be an experiment...?

[Katara frowns.] I don't know - I don't know what could do this. But I'd believe that before I believed that he's been lying to us [Yes. Us.] this whole time. Sokka's a lot of things, and I mean he's a lot of things, but he's not a liar.

[Suki's silent for a while, thinking about that. Sokka isn't really that good at lying, which is what made the whole confession so believable. She can't help but still feel that her heart is aching from all of this, but... what Katara is saying makes a lot of sense.

Even so... if it is an experiment... haven't they been through enough already?]

Why... why would they do this to us? Do they not want us to be together? If it's true...

[Katara glances up at Suki a little sharply at the mention of the Malnosso.] Who cares what they want? What matters is what you want. And if it's true... [Which she just... can not believe.] I'll hold him down while you punch.

[It's a completely serious offer, which is saying something else.]

But if it's not true - are you going to let them take his love from you without a fight?

[Don't you love him? Don't we fight to keep what we love?]

If he really thinks he loves her... I can't fight that. I already argued with him and he just... [Blew her off. Like none of what they went through even mattered.]

[Katara frowns. This is so messed up.]

I'll talk with him. I don't know what's going on in his head, but...

[She looks at Suki seriously.] That's not all that I meant - even if the Malnosso keep doing these crazy, terrible things you have to decide if you're going to believe who they say Sokka is and what they make him do... or who you know him to be.

[And she reaches over and gives Suki a hug.] I'm so sorry this happened.

[Suki holds her back, trying not to cling a little; she really does need that confidence boost, and she's so glad Katara's here for her now.]

I'm... not just going to give up. If it's really some kind of experiment... a-and if he realizes it... then we can work things out. Just like before...

[Though if they mess with the two of them a third time she will be cracking some heads.]
