Well... now that the draft is over, I think it's a good time to do this. Because of all the fighting we have do while we're here, either by choice or by force, it's a good idea to have some understanding of combat in case of an emergency. From what I heard about this last battle, even the people who took refuge weren't able to stay out of the fight. We can't really afford to take chances like that anymore, and I'd like to do something about that- so I have a proposal for the girls of Luceti.

First of all, I'm Suki. I know I look young, but where I'm from, I lead a group of girls known as the Kyoshi Warriors. We're well-trained in combat, and the focus of our style is a mix of defense, stealth, and using our opponent's strength against them. Girls are often smaller and not as strong as men, and it's very important to never view that as a weakness.

None of my warriors are here right now, but I want to start the group here anyway. There's no age limit, no experience needed, you just have to be willing to listen and learn. If you'd like to join, or ask me questions, please, let me know, okay? And if you don't want to get involved in my group, Buffy runs a fighting school as well, and I'm sure there's plenty of great teachers willing to help there, too.

I just don't want to see anyone else get hurt if it can be avoided, so... I hope you'll all think about it.

Yeah, it was. [Suki folds one of her fans, then then, as an afterthought, offers it out to her.] You're Marica, right? Want to have a look?

["How do you do"? Awfully formal! Suki just smiles. And the fan has sharpened edges and is pretty solidly made, so it's obviously not just a decoration.] It's nice to meet you. Have you ever used fans before?

No, never. I've seen one person aside from you use them, but he came from a faraway land in my world.

Well, that's okay. Everyone has their own area of expertise. On my world we all use the same weapons, but I think we might have to make this Kyoshi group a little more diverse for those of you who already know how to use a weapon.

[No sense in forcing people to use something when they could have years of experience with something else.]

Of course, if anyone still wants to learn the traditional way, I'm happy to teach it!

Hey, who knows? Maybe I'll like using these! And even if they up not being my thing, I could always use work with the sword and fists.

I'm surprised by how many! Including the two of us, there's going to be eight of us now. I've never worked with a group this big.

That's not a bad number at all. It'll feel like a real class. Though are there, um, uniforms involved?

Well, this is the traditional gear of a Kyoshi Warrior. [Oh dear, maybe she should have mentioned that part from the beginning.] Does it bother you?

N-No, not terribly. It's just... different, I guess.

It's a symbol of great honour and strength in our village. This uniform and the face paint has been passed down from generation to generation, way back to the powerful Avatar Kyoshi.

If it's that important, then I don't have a problem. I've just never been in a group formal enough that it had uniforms, I guess.

It's meant to inspire confidence and help us act as more of a group. It also makes it easier to identify who's an ally in battle.

Makes sense to me. Though actually, back home, the uniforms helped us identify who our enemies were in battle. We never really got around to making a dress code.

Actually, the enemies we fight during drafts are mostly dressed the same as well, so at least it'll be a mutual strength and weakness.

True... I kinda liked what most of us were wearing, though, with the camouflage and everything. Pretty practical.

... Though your uniform is pretty cool in its own way.

[Suki takes it gratefully, sliding it into place at her belt.] Thanks! This uniform was designed by the woman who started our group and created the island I came from, a legendary and powerful warrior. I think it showcases the true strength and beauty of a female soldier.

Sure thing. Want me to run another simulation, or would you prefer to find out firsthand?

[She isn't sure about whether or not this girl is aiming for a spar, so may as well make the offer.]
