I thought this holiday was supposed to be good for couples. So far it's been really disappointing.

I'll be happy if I never have to hear "Valentine's Day" ever again.

[And boyfriends have been equally disappointing; she feels like she's barely seen him for days. Stupid Sokka and his stupid other-girl friends. Stupid holiday. Stupid- ... everything.

She'll be in her room sulking and wanting to punch things. And she might not respond right away, either- she has to have a conversation with a certain someone...]

[And Suki... has been absent for some time. Why? Because she had a little chat with her boyfriend.

...Ex-boyfriend. So she's been crying for a while.

By chance she hears the voice over the journal, and though normally she would have ignored it while in such a state, something about it... pings her. Strange.

Wiping at her eyes, she tugs the journal down to check it. Someone she doesn't know is agreeing with her? He must be going through something terrible, too...]

Y... yeah. It leaves out the people who don't have anyone...

[That tone in her voice... It's one he can definitely recognize. He sounded like that himself not too long ago. He still felt like that...

He hadn't planned on chatting it up with someone over the journal, really, but, for some reason... he felt like he shouldn't stop communications. It felt kind of nice to have someone who understood...]

Y-yeah... It really just kinda hurts, having it shoved in your face like this.

[That does feel nice, actually. She can't help but take comfort in that feeling- the feeling that despite how horrible she's feeling, someone understands.]

It really hurts.

[Yeah... This feels pretty good, really. Before, Karol was just keeping it all in, because no matter how much people claimed they understood how he was feeling... he didn't feel like they really did. But having someone to rant to that really does understand... It's almost therapeutic.]

I mean... I'm happy that some people are finding love this week, but couldn't they be a little more sensitive about it?

I wish they would be. They don't have to rub it in our faces.

[She feels a lot better already. Really, why hadn't she met this guy months ago? It would have spared her a lot of grief.]

[He blushes a bit. He already knew a bit about her, including her name, but... maybe it would be best not to say that, considering who he learned it from is... likely a sore spot for her.]

It's nice to meet you, too. [Hold on a minute, she recognizes that name-] You're the leader of that group... Brave Vesperia, aren't you?

[...Oh, right. Being Karol Capel made him a bit of a celebrity, since most people associate that name with Brave Vesperia. He still wasn't quite used to most of the village knowing his name, especially considering how things were back home.]

That's pretty impressive... you don't look any older than I am.

Well... I had some help getting things started... Well, a lot of help, really, but I just had to learn that how old I was didn't affect whether I'd succeed at something or not! [He's still not really sure whether that's true, but... it's helped him out when people have judged him for his age before.]

It's a good attitude to have, then. You're a strong person, Karol. [It's so admirable. Leaders - especially younger ones - had to be tough. She knows that well. Maybe they can understand each other even more, this way?]

Umm, thanks, but... I'm really not all that strong... Without the help of my friends, I don't know where I'd be right now. A leader's only as good as the people they lead, after all.

I like that idea. I feel the same way- I lead a group of people too, back home. They give me a lot of strength.

[Karol wishes he had met this girl sooner... Not many people understand the pressures of being a leader, especially when people think you're too young for it, but... Suki understands him perfectly... What it feels like to be a leader, to be hurting from love... everything. And she's really pretty, too...]

Yeah- they're called the Kyoshi Warriors. They've protected the island I'm from for generations.

I think so too! But it's a lot of responsibility.

Did you ever think about starting up your group here?

I've thought about it... I don't know if anyone would join, though.

I used to think that too... I wondered if anyone would join Brave Vesperia... But, you know... You'd be surprised what kind of people could be interested.

I dunno if it means much, but Brave Vesperia will lend you its support if you decided to do it.

Is that so... [She can't help but think that would be kind of nice. Especially if Karol is the leader.

[...Oh, damn, that's right. That would be... awkward, considering what just happened with Sokka. He thought it'd be pretty nice to work with Suki like this, but he doesn't want to make things more complicated for her...]

... [No... no. She's not going to let stupid Sokka ruin this. He wants to break up with her? Fine, it's his loss! She doesn't need him to establish herself here. She'll find her own way, with or without his support.

And Karol's offered his hand, so why not take it? If Sokka doesn't like it, he can deal with it.]

No... no. I'll do it anyway! The Kyoshi Warriors will show this place that they don't need boys to be strong!

[...Wow, she was strong. Not physically--though she was probably that, too--but she had a strong will. Even though things were against her, she knew what she wanted and didn't want to give up no matter how much the odds were stacked against him. Karol couldn't help but admire that.

You don't meet many people like Suki, that's for sure...]
