Well... now that the draft is over, I think it's a good time to do this. Because of all the fighting we have do while we're here, either by choice or by force, it's a good idea to have some understanding of combat in case of an emergency. From what I heard about this last battle, even the people who took refuge weren't able to stay out of the fight. We can't really afford to take chances like that anymore, and I'd like to do something about that- so I have a proposal for the girls of Luceti.

First of all, I'm Suki. I know I look young, but where I'm from, I lead a group of girls known as the Kyoshi Warriors. We're well-trained in combat, and the focus of our style is a mix of defense, stealth, and using our opponent's strength against them. Girls are often smaller and not as strong as men, and it's very important to never view that as a weakness.

None of my warriors are here right now, but I want to start the group here anyway. There's no age limit, no experience needed, you just have to be willing to listen and learn. If you'd like to join, or ask me questions, please, let me know, okay? And if you don't want to get involved in my group, Buffy runs a fighting school as well, and I'm sure there's plenty of great teachers willing to help there, too.

I just don't want to see anyone else get hurt if it can be avoided, so... I hope you'll all think about it.

Well, you deserve it! The fighting school has been around a lot longer than me.

Yeah, but it's pretty casual at best. We're like match-makers, but for trainers and students. Your operation, though? [ a low whistle. ] Good luck.

I'm pretty sure I'll need it. I'm hoping to at least get a few people interested. Even just thinking about it would be enough.

...How many did you typically command, back home?

[kyoshi]

My group had four other girls in it back home, though a fifth had just joined before I came here.

[herotypical]

...Oh? Sounds selective. Nice.

[kyoshi]

Not really selective, it was just a small village.

[herotypical]

I keep an army-o-teenage girls back home, too. They're not always easy to handle. Not even four or five.

[kyoshi]

An army? [Is she serious or just. Adding emphasis...?]

[herotypical]

Mmhm. Around a thousand, to be kinda precise.

[kyoshi]

...A thousand? [WHAT EVEN, BUFFY.]

[herotypical]

Split over a few squads, around the world.

[kyoshi]

That's incredible. How do you handle that many people?

[herotypical]

The organization's divided into squads. And there're...people, that I trust.

[kyoshi]

That's good, at least. I can't imagine trying to train or keep track of that many.

[herotypical]

It's not so bad. Each group of a couple hundred has a squad leader. We're all spread out over the world -- it works, somehow.

Is there some kind of war going on, that you need so many soldiers?

[herotypical]

There's always a kind of war -- forces of darkness, legions of demons. Vampires. Kind of a never-ending deal.

[kyoshi]

Demons... vampires? I've never heard of anything like that.

[Now are they better or worse than Fire Nation troops? Because they suck.]

[herotypical]

They're...creatures. Usually mostly interested in ending the world and-slash-or all of humanity.

[kyoshi]

[Okay that sounds... freaky. And yeah, worse than Firebenders. At least they just want to rule the world.]

Sounds like you had a lot going on back home.

[herotypical]

Eh. That's part and parcel of the whole Slayer gig.

[ perhaps that was too dark. hmm. ] How, uhm, goes...things?

[kyoshi]

At home, you mean? [With Yue, she assumes.] Things are... okay. I think, anyway.

[Kind of awkward, still. She dislikes having to hide it, but she can't really say that publicly.]

[herotypical]

I know you and me aren't close but -- if you ever need someone to talk to? I hear barmaids have very good ears.

[kyoshi]

[Ahaha. Well, she's certainly good for that sort of thing, going by Suki's experience. Even if she'd feel a little selfish to bother someone with such problems, at least she knows what's wrong. And she offered...]

You're not encouraging a minor to drink, are you?
