We've been getting an awful lot of rain this month so far, haven't we? Was it this bad last year?

Speaking of "year"... getting pretty close to my first, now. A lot has happened to make it feel a lot shorter than it is. I guess it took me by surprise...

Hey everyone, just a quick announcement:

Be sure to put in some extra practice today if you can, because tomorrow I plan on running a private tournament between you all to see how you're doing. It's hand-to-hand only, so you can use whatever techniques you've learned so far. Get a good night's sleep the night before, okay?

Next week I'd like to try some acrobatics, so we'll meet in the Battle Dome.

Hey, Toph, if you're not busy today, want to work on some training? I have a few ideas I'd like to try.

[Suki is out and about today, picking some stuff up at the plaza, checking on the status of the uniforms, and hiding out in one of the shops when the rain hits. Otherwise, housemates can find her at home- probably soaked to the bone when she arrives, poor thing.]

Fiance? [Vivi breaks into a joyful smile, which is clear in her voice.] Oh, congratulations! I didn't realize you were engaged!

Thank you! It happened a few months ago, after my birthday. I'm really excited! Though I don't think we'll actually get married for a while...

Oh! That is really special. Actually... [she sounds mildly sheepish for not knowing] ...who is your fiance, Suki-san?

Do you know Sokka, the guy who works in the weapon shop? Kind of silly, wears his hair up in a high tail? That's him.

[She has to think a moment to be sure.] Yes, I'm sure I've seen him around, but I don't think we've ever actually talked. [Well, at least now she has a good icebreaker.]

Is he from the same place as you?

Yes! Well, mostly. We come from the same world, but we used to live in different countries. He's from the Water Tribe, and I'm from the Earth Kingdom.

Oh? How did you end up meeting? [She hopes she's not prying too much, but she's intrigued. Suki's even younger than her, after all, but she's already engaged to be married, and she doesn't seem the type prone to jumping into something like that unprepared.]

[Suki doesn't mind, she kinda likes talking about it. It makes for a fun story, after all.]

Actually, we didn't get along at all at first. He and a couple of friends landed at my island, and as a Kyoshi Warrior I'm charged with defending it. The girls and I captured them, and since we thought they were spies, we were going to feel them to the Unagi...

[Not what she was expecting, admittedly. Obviously it worked out all right in the end, though. But she has to ask...]

What's a unagi?

A giant sea serpent. It lives near Kyoshi Island, and it isn't very friendly to outsiders. [Or anyone, really, but the fishermen manage to avoid getting eaten, at least.]

[A small, somewhat nervous laugh.] It's a good thing you didn't end up doing that. I suppose it does make for an interesting "how we met" story, at least.

That's for sure. Though it probably doesn't sound all that great to people who weren't there at the time...

[Feeding someone alive to a giant fish? Yeah, not the nicest greeting. Desperate times, though.]

[Well, she can't say that's not true. So. She'll sidestep that a bit.]

He obviously didn't hold it against you, so in the end, it probably doesn't matter that much.

Not that he made the best first impression, either! We both had a few things to forgive.

[She laughs.] First impressions aren't always very accurate, I've found. At any rate, I'm glad it all worked out well for the two of you!
