We've been getting an awful lot of rain this month so far, haven't we? Was it this bad last year?

Speaking of "year"... getting pretty close to my first, now. A lot has happened to make it feel a lot shorter than it is. I guess it took me by surprise...

Hey everyone, just a quick announcement:

Be sure to put in some extra practice today if you can, because tomorrow I plan on running a private tournament between you all to see how you're doing. It's hand-to-hand only, so you can use whatever techniques you've learned so far. Get a good night's sleep the night before, okay?

Next week I'd like to try some acrobatics, so we'll meet in the Battle Dome.

Hey, Toph, if you're not busy today, want to work on some training? I have a few ideas I'd like to try.


[Suki is out and about today, picking some stuff up at the plaza, checking on the status of the uniforms, and hiding out in one of the shops when the rain hits. Otherwise, housemates can find her at home- probably soaked to the bone when she arrives, poor thing.]

The first year always go by quick! And when you're almost to the third year it goes by even quicker than that!

It's the second year you have to worry about!

The second one is when the Malnosso throw everything at you! Even the kitchen faucet! That's when you'll be happy and sad, and then really sad! But you might get happy again before it's over...!

You should just be glad you're only in the first year! That's the easiest one sometimes.

[Toph's been waiting for this and dreading it at the same time. Ever since ending up in Sokka's village when the Battle Dome went haywire, she's realized even further how much she needed to learn these things, but that also required admitting her bending wasn't enough. And she didn't like that. Not one bit.]

[Hey guess what! This is the day Sokka comes home. When she gets home, Sokka will be outside the house, where it's fortunate currently dry, huffing it back inside with a huge backpack of supplies from the camping trip. His back is turned to her, though and he hasn't quite realized she's home.]

[Ooh, an unsuspecting foe. Suki spots him, brows lifting at once, then slides right into stealth mode, edging closer while he's occupied with his gear. Tiptoe, tiptoe, tiptoe, aaaaaand...

...ninja ambush hug!]

[Oof! His KILLER INSTINCTS almost activate. Only not really because he's caught stunned for a second, then his eyes light up. It's his girlfriend! No wait, fiancee!]

A tournament?

[She sounds startled, transitioning to worry. Now that she's actually been taught some hand-to-hand, she's starting to notice there's a bit of a difference between someone who knows how to fight another way and someone who has no fighting experience at all. And she's pretty aware that she belongs in the latter, slightly smaller group. One lesson with Sokka and vague memories of an alternate life don't really count, especially since she knows she doesn't practice quite as much as she probably should....]

Fenimore, don't worry about it. It's not going to be anything too serious- I just want to see how everyone is progressing by sparring with each other, rather than just training dummies.

When you call it a tournament, it sounds like a competition, though.

[She sounds almost suspicious about it. As mentioned above, she kind of knows how that would go for her, and she doesn't really like losing. By which I mean she can be very competitive.]

I think you'll be okay without it. You already have enough combat experience to not need the extra practice.

Thanks, Suki. It should be fun though. I'm better fighting people than the monsters that were running loose last month.

A tournament...

[She sounds slightly unsure about that, for the same reasons as Fenimore. Stella might have knowledge in combat thanks to being a crystal eren, and the lessons she's been taught here have helped... but otherwise? She's very much not a physical fighter.]

Don't worry about it! I just want to see you show off what you've learned. Even if you don't do as well, it just means I need to work with you more to help you catch up.

Time certainly does get away from you here. It'll be nearly five months now, for me. [...but that kind of talk tends to make her feel homesick for Alabasta. Okay, time to change the subject.]

It's been a while since we spoke last. Did you end up having a good birthday?

I did! It was wonderful. My boyfriend - ah, fiance now - [Hee, that still feels so good to say] Well, he found a way to make it really special.

It really does! Way more than I expected, that's for sure. I can't say it's been a bad experience, though.

... a tournament? Wow... that sounds kind of exciting, actually. [ Eh heh. Nervous, but ... well, she's fought a lot on her life. This is a different kind of fighting, but she's still no stranger to it. ]
